For any request granted, all costs and the responsibility for transportation must be provided by the parent/guardian.  The transportation must be reliable and timely.  Being chronically tardy, leaving early, excessive absences (unexcused or excused), or violations of the student code of conduct will be immediate automatic grounds for revoking the transfer and/or tuition. 

It is the goal of Lowndes County Schools to provide as much choice to our residents as economically possible. However, the system must first meet the needs of students within the school attendance zones before allowing school choice transfers and accepting new tuition students. The growth of our system can make this extremely difficult, especially at our larger schools. Adequate permanent space is EXTREMELY limited at all of our schools. Please note that applications for school choice for Dewar Elementary School, Hahira Elementary School and Westside Elementary School will not be accepted at this time.  
At this time the system is accepting requests for school attendance zone changes (School Choice) and tuition requests – both for qualifying property owners and non-qualifying property owners - for the 2024-25 school year. 
Parents/guardians have until April 19, 2024 @ 1:00 p.m. to complete and submit a request.

Once all requests are received, they will be reviewed and evaluated in the following priority order:

  1. Change of School Attendance Zone Requests for current Lowndes County School District Residents
  2. Tuition Requests for those meeting the property ownership requirement
  3. Tuition Requests for those not meeting the property ownership requirement.
The school and grade that is requested must have adequate permanent space as determined by the district.

 Tuition requests should list, in their preference order, three (3) elementary schools that are acceptable and at least two (2) middle schools. Tuition requests should also include a SEALED copy of the student(s) latest grade report, showing grades, attendance, and behavior from previous school. Completed Tuition applications must include paid 2023 tax record which should include value, as proof of property ownership.

A separate request must be made for each child in the family. Requests are accepted for Kindergarten through 12th grade students. Pre-K students do not qualify for transfers or tuition.

Any current parent/guardian with current school choice and/or tuition students having a sibling ready to enter school should contact the system’s Centralized Student Enrollment department for the appropriate application form. The department can be reached at 229-245-2250 – Central Registration.

Please choose the appropriate form, print, complete and submit. The mailing and faxing instructions are on each application. A separate request is required for each student. Completed requests can also be emailed to [email protected]

Note: At this time the system is simply gauging the number of requests for the 2024-2025 school year. Once received, all applications will be reviewed by the system’s attendance zoning committee. It is our goal to notify all applicants of the system’s decision as quickly as possible.
